In the year 830 A.D., the violence of the Saracen pirates and a series of calamitous natural events almost entirely destroyed the millennial Tyndaris and its inhabitants were forced to migrate in the valley, along the slopes of a hillock beyond the Timeto river, giving so origin to the first community of "Epacten" (Patti).

In its historical, picturesque and articulated centre, Patti still preserves the signs of the passage of Normans, Aragoneses, Spaniards, traceable in various monuments of notable artistic and historical interest, among which the sarcophagus in Renaissance style of Queen Adelasia, mother of the first King of Sicily, Roger II of Altavilla, set in the Cathedral.
